Interpersonal Neurobiology

Many adult women carry a heavy load – caring for others, juggling work and family, or recovering from past hurts.  These experiences can shape our nervous system and our sense of self.  Many women come to therapy looking for relief from stress, anxiety, relationship struggles, or a sense of disconnection.

At Una Psychology, we believe that meaningful change begins with understanding how your mind, body, and relationships work together.  Interpersonal neurobiology offers a powerful way to make sense of these experiences – and to transform them.

What is Interpersonal Neurobiology?

Interpersonal neurobiology (or IPNB) is an approach that blends neuroscience, psychology, attachment theory and mindfulness to offer a truly integrative approach to therapy.  It helps us see how the brain develops and adapts in the context of relationships.

In simple terms, IPNB shows us why you think, feel, and react the way you do – and how you can reshape these patterns to feel more grounded, connected, and whole.

  • Whole-Brain Integration: Rather than focusing on just thoughts or emotions, IPNB looks at how different parts of your brain interact. When those systems are out of sync – due to stress, trauma, or old patterns – you may feel stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed. Therapy helps you build more integration in the brain, leading to greater emotional balance, clarity, and flexibility.
  • Relationship as a Healing Tool: Your brain is shaped by relationships – and it can be healed through relationships, too. In IPNB-informed therapy, the therapeutic relationship itself is a key part of the healing process. We create a safe, attuned connection where new relational patterns can emerge, especially if earlier connections in your life were painful, chaotic, or inconsistent.
  • Mind-Body Connection: IPNB recognises that your nervous system, body sensations, and emotions are deeply interconnected. You may feel your stress in your shoulders, your anxiety in your gut, or your trauma in your breath. We bring gentle awareness to these signals and help you learn to listen to your body as a source of wisdom – not just discomfort.
  • A Focus on Growth, Not Just Symptoms: Rather than only aiming to “fix” problems or eliminate symptoms, IPNB-informed therapy supports your development as a whole person. We focus on your capacity for resilience, self-awareness, and meaningful connection. It’s not about becoming someone else – it’s about coming home to who you really are.
  • Integrative and Evidence-Informed: This approach draws from many scientific disciplines and therapeutic models – bringing together the best of what research tells us about how humans heal. Whether we’re working with early attachment experiences, current stressors, or deep emotional wounds, IPNB helps us make sense of it all in a coherent, compassionate way.

Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply curious about your own growth, you’ll find a space with Una Psychology to be heard, understood, and empowered.  Using principles of interpersonal neurobiology, we’ll gently explore your experiences and identify ways to strengthen your emotional resilience. Our sessions are collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to you. In therapy, we translate the science into everyday language and practical tools you can use to improve your life.

If you’re ready to explore how your mind, body and relationships can work together to help you thrive, please contact us today, we’re here to help.
